On April 2, 2024, the 2024 2nd International Experts Sharing seminar hosted by CATECP, SEAMEO TED, and Capiz State University of the Philippines, with the collaboration of Go Study Global Education, was successfully held. With 300 participants attending, the seminar delved into the theme "Innovation and Strategies towards Sustainable and Net Zero Energy Buildings".
The opening remarks were delivered by the President of Capiz State University, EDITHA C. ALFON. She extended a warm welcome and heartfelt gratitude to the distinguished resource speakers and the vast assembly of participating scholars. Emphasizing the significance of our collective pursuit of sustainable development goals, she urged all parties to unite efforts in translating the discussions into action, thereby advancing the realization of net-zero energy buildings and sustainable development.
Professor. Zhao Peili, Vice Director of the Teacher Development Center at Guangxi Polytechnic of Construction in China, addressed the audience on the topic of "Innovations in Sustainable Construction Methods for Green Assembled Buildings". She began by addressing fundamental questions, exploring the concept of prefabricated construction. Through an overview of its development and case studies, attendees gained insight into the widespread adoption of this building method. Additionally, the discussion extended to transforming construction waste into valuable resources, contributing to sustainability efforts. Finally, innovative technologies in intelligent construction were thoroughly examined, including applications of big data, the Internet of Things, and artificial intelligence, offering insights into the future direction of the construction industry.
Dr. Riza Muhida, Head of the Center for Mechatronics and Automation Studies at Bandar Lampung University in Indonesia, shared insights on the topic: "Solar Energy Development in Indonesia". Dr. Riza highlighted the relationship between global energy demand and the advantages of solar energy. He discussed the applications of grid-connected photovoltaic systems, standalone PV systems, and the significant role of Building Integrated Photovoltaics (BIPV) technology in clean energy supply. Emphasizing its support for achieving zero-energy or low-energy building goals, he also provided an overview of Indonesia's energy situation and renewable energy development. Dr. Muhida pointed out the potential and prospects of the solar PV industry in Indonesia, calling for accelerated energy transition to achieve net-zero emissions targets.
Assistant Professor Engr. Cortez, from Capiz State University in the Philippines, presented on the topic: "Energy audits Buildings to achieve Net Zero Energy Building". He presented the concept and practices of sustainable net-zero buildings in the Philippines, helping participants understand and acquire knowledge and skills in related areas such as design, construction, energy efficiency, and policy frameworks. Through an overview of sustainable architecture and discussions on challenges, opportunities, and current development in the Philippines, participants gained insight into the status quo and future prospects in this field. The course also focused on innovative technologies in design and construction, energy efficiency, renewable energy utilization, as well as the role of government policies and financial models in promoting sustainable building development.
Ms. TAING Kimnenh, Lecturer at the Institute of Technology of Cambodia, spoke on the subject of "Approach for Designing a Bioclimatic building in Tropical Region". Ms. TAING Kimnenh emphasized the importance of bioclimatic design, stating that architectural design should consider surrounding environmental factors to provide comfort to occupants and achieve low energy consumption. By conducting building simulations in energy software to assess the thermal performance of design strategies, vital information is provided for decision-making regarding sustainable and net-zero energy buildings. The application of these methods will contribute to driving the Cambodian construction industry towards a more sustainable and environmentally friendly direction, offering valuable insights and guidance for future architectural development.
Finally, Mr. Khat Prumsochetra, Deputy Director of SEAMEO TED, delivered the closing remarks, providing a brief summary of the key points raised by the experts and scholars. He expressed sincere gratitude for the insightful contributions of the speakers and looked forward to further technical exchanges and continuous innovation to promote the development of sustainable and energy-efficient buildings.
